“Calendar Boy”
Each and Every Month is a Treat

One of the things I like about Toby Ross’s films is that each new film is totally different and like Forrest Gump says you never know what you are going to get…aside from entertainment. “Calendar Boy” is not exactly what I would call a gay themed film—there is no plot, there is only a very small amount of dialogue, there is really no set (aside from the inside of someone’s apartment). So what is “Calendar Boy”? Well I’ll you. It consists of some of the cutest young guys posing for their calendar shoot. They don’t have to verbally say anything (although really cute Jay Gunn does speak a bit) because their nude bodies say it all. We see the joy in their faces as they pose and the boys have radiant smiles. They are naked and carefree and it seems so natural to see them as they pose, fully erect and proud. Of course they have every reason to be proud because they have what it takes without being overly muscular or physically beautiful. To me they were just guys who came in off of the street (I mean that positively), took off their clothes and stood tall and proud for the camera. Interesting is that these wholesome boys are enjoying what they do in the film and we therefore enjoy watching them. The models include Jericho Miles, Jay Gunn, Haley Star, Niko (you may wonder why the month of March is a bit longer than the other months but once you see it and Niko you will understand), Scottie Brooks, Ryan di Noor, Braden Black, Shawn Lane, Jonathan Tailor, Joe Durant, Danny Coral and Trent Walker.
Toby Ross must have a magic touch because he gives us a year full of boys next door and each and every one is a pleasure to watch. I am not sure how to classify this film except to say that is fun. You don’t have to think about what is going on. The film requires nothing of you and that makes it so easy to enjoy.
Unlike the Dieux du Stade calendar shoots, Ross puts everything there for us to enjoy, adds a wonderful music soundtrack and we watch as they make our 2011 calendar.
