This bitingly sarcastic and yet poignant survival guide to Thatcher's England is often funny and always thought provoking. The story revolves around Cyril and Shirley, two lovers attempting to stay true to their leftist ideals and lifestyle despite the rising tide of heartless capitalism. The cast of memorable characters includes Cyril's embittered mother, teetering on senility; his hysterical sister, bent on obliterating her working-class roots with the plastic comforts of suburbia; and two wildly funny upper-class twits who blindly romp amidst the decay of Thatcher's New Society.
